Fundamentals of Leadership
Being a leader goes well beyond knowing your job, doing a job, and telling others what to do. Understanding and utilizing leadership traits such as compassion, consideration and influence are keys to becoming an effective leader. The balancing of your subordinate's personal needs such as promotions and recognition while achieving the objectives of the team and organization is a skill that only a true leader possesses.
This workshop brings out the leadership traits needed by leaders in your organization. We'll explore different leadership styles and models that can be situationally applied by your leaders. Your leaders will develop the components of building leader-subordinate relationships. Together with your leaders we will create the framework for a leadership development plan. This plan will serve as an internal model to develop future leaders for your organization. back to top
Transformational Leadership
Transformation leaders envision and stimulate continuous change, innovation, and adaptation. These unique leaders require skills and capabilities to manage change and all the challenges that will inevitably be encountered.
In this workshop leaders will be introduced to models and theories of transformational leadership and change management. The importance of communicating strategic intent, building efficient and effective teams, and institutionalizing a winning attitude is explored collectively with your leaders and in great detail. Your leaders will be challenged to create a practical and applicable plan for developing a successful corporate culture of continuous and productive change. back to top
Create Common Focus: Team Building and Teamwork
Teams are the foundation of organizational success. Whether an action team, advisory team, or a management team, there is one characteristic that is key to success. It is having common focus to achieve an objective. Effective teams distinguish themselves by a shared commitment to common objectives.
In this workshop, we'll explore breakdowns in teamwork and proven methods to build teams. Breakdowns in teamwork come at both the individual and team level. Individuals can adversely affect the team's performance by putting their own objectives before those of the team. Groups who are in the same department or working on the same assignment are examined and given the tools needed to become effective common-goal-oriented teams. Individual teams operating in silos will also cause adverse affects. These "Silo Teams" do not direct their efforts to the common goals and objectives of the organization and thus affect the largest team, the organization itself.
The Tuckman Team Building Model (Forming-Storming-Norming-Performing) created by Dr. Bruce Tuckman is introduced and used to develop your internal team building process. Using team bonding exercises and processes develop in the workshop specifically by your organization for your organization, will start the building of Common Focus. back to top
Leadership Communication:
Coaching, Counseling and Non-Verbal
Studies have shown that communicating is the single most critical skill used by leaders. It is estimated that 80% of leader-subordinate interaction is spent communicating. Organizational leaders recognize the importance of communication yet it remains a major problem. One main reason for this is that leaders feel that they themselves are very effective communicators and that the weakness is in others. So while most leaders see the need to improve communication, most don't see the need to improve their own skill level. Leaders need to recognize the barriers to effective communication and quickly alter their approach.
In this workshop, we'll introduce the eight attributes of supportive communication. Two interpersonal leadership communication approaches, coaching and counseling, will be thoroughly discussed and improvement opportunities will be explored. Leaders are taught to recognize the difference between a situation that requires the issuance of information versus issuance of advice. Methods to ensure two-way communication and prevent communication failures are uncovered. Messages sent by leaders with their facial expressions and other actions are examined as a possible source of miscommunication and inconsistent communication. Motivational techniques are introduced and developed to become the primary goal of all communication. back to top
